JWRC Conservation

JWRC Conservation is a Firm Regulated by RICS that was established by Jonathan Ratter in 2005 and has now completed over 300 projects. We are experienced and qualified experts in historic and listed buildings. We now work mainly in Scotland and northern England, but have experience of working throughout the British Isles, from Jersey to Shetland, and will travel anywhere in the UK to survey interesting buildings. We have a deep understanding of buildings made with traditional natural materials and recommend or specify compatible materials for repairs, maintenance and retrofit.

About Jonathan

For his degrees he studied the history of vernacular architecture and nineteenth century architecture before working on re-survey and review of statutory lists for English Heritage. His interest in building construction and conservation led him to qualify as a building surveyor while working in London for one of the first surveyors to be accredited in conservation. He spent five years as Building Conservation Officer for the Yorkshire Dales National Park before returning to private practice as a Chartered Building Surveyor and Heritage Consultant. He worked for several firms, including an international construction consultancy and a heritage consultancy, before establishing JWRC Conservation. His knowledge of building history and construction and experience of preparing statutory lists, as well as time spent working as a conservation officer and as a surveyor in private practice, give him a broad understanding of building history, construction and defects investigation, as well as of the heritage planning system.

He is a Chartered Building Surveyor, a full member of the IHBC (Institute of Historic Building Conservation), and a member of the AECB (Association of Environmentally Conscious Builders), SEDA (the Scottish Ecological Design Association), and the Building Limes Forum.
